Recent Achievements
History of TAM Selangor Wilayah
The Telugu Association of Malaysia Selangor/Wilayah Branch has a rich heritage dating back to its establishment in 1964, making it one of the oldest cultural associations in the region. Founded by a small group of Telugu immigrants who sought to preserve their cultural identity in their new Malaysian home, the association began with informal gatherings before officially registering as a formal organization.
Throughout its decades-long journey, TAM Selangor Wilayah has evolved from a small community support group into a significant cultural institution. The 1970s and 1980s marked a period of substantial growth as more Telugu families settled in the Selangor and Wilayah Persekutuan areas, leading to expanded activities including language classes, cultural performances, and community assistance programs.
The association achieved several notable milestones, including the acquisition of its first community center in 1993, the establishment of the Telugu Language Education Initiative in 2001, and the creation of the TAM Foundation scholarship program in 2008. These achievements reflect the unwavering commitment of successive leadership teams who have dedicated themselves to strengthening Telugu cultural heritage while fostering integration within Malaysia's multicultural society.
